Santikos Theatres was founded in 1911 by Louis Santikos, a Greek entrepreneur and pioneer in the Texas motion picture industry.  His son John continued to build the family legacy upon entering the movie theatre business after graduating from St. Mary’s University.  John Santikos remained at the helm of his beloved company until the day he passed away on December 30, 2014.  Today, our founder’s original vision is still the driving force behind everything we do.  Making the exceptional guest experience our highest priority has allowed the company to grow into a circuit of unique and successful entertainment destinations.

Over the years, Santikos Theatres has been a pioneer bringing the ‘latest and greatest’ in cinema technology to San Antonio and Houston along with its spectacular entertainment complexes.  The Santikos theatres have created fabulous cinema experiences.  From the first drive-in theatres and multiplex indoor theatres, to THX and digital sound technology, Santikos Theatres leads the way in innovation. More recent additions include 3D presentations, Hollywood IMAX films, HD digital projection, Dolby Atmos sound systems, Laser light projection technology, in-theatre dining, D-Box motion seats, bowling lanes and the city’s only art-house. In 2013, Santikos introduced its own branded PLF (premium large format)   (The Ultimate Audio/Visual Experience) projection system to deliver the best possible guest viewing experience.

Today, the Santikos Theatre circuit includes 7 theatres in San Antonio – Palladium IMAX, Silverado 16, Mayan Palace, Embassy, Rialto Brewhaus, Northwest 14 and the Bijou – San Antonio’s only Art Film venue. A new location, the Casa Blanca, is currently under construction in far west San Antonio with a planned opening in early 2016. And 2 theatres in the Houston area – Palladium AVX in West Houston and Silverado IMAX in Northwest Houston.

In addition to the theatre business, John Santikos was extremely active in both real estate development and land sales in the San Antonio area.  The Santikos Companies own and manage numerous commercial properties in San Antonio, including the award winning Legacy Project in north San Antonio.
